Decorative pictures of chickens and retro ceramic roosters are the rage. Backyard poultry and egg stands are everywhere. Let's face it--chickens are popular! But did you know what amazing pets they are? They love human interaction and enjoy games and affection. When I carry my chickens into the barn on cold nights, one little hen looks up at me in her sweet way and lays her head on my shoulder. You can even buy a chicken swing so they can swing just like kids in the park. And as it turns out, chickens have been blessed with the glorious talent of reducing anxiety in people. Therapy chickens are actually being used with patients in several nursing homes to help reduce loneliness and aid in reducing anxiety. It's working like a charm, and they have farm fresh eggs for breakfast! I find it interesting that God knows our anxious thoughts and sends us remedies in all sorts of packages. Who knew that a funny waddling nearly flightless bird would come bearing this gifts? And I bet you thought they were here just for the eggs! --Devon O'Day********* Thank you Lord, for bringing chickens into my Asperger's grandson's life, that gave him the ability to have social skills, speak up for his needs, and being responsible for the up-keep of his pets. He spoke out on their local news station, was seen in their newspaper, and seen at Town Hall Meetings speaking up to keep his chickens. At 16 yrs old, he graduated high school with high honors, having passed all high school regents, & has passed all his AP courses that was credited to a two year degree, he's now in his third year of college, has a pilots license to fly a plane, built his own simulated airplane in his room, has a license to drive a car, and is able to speak with others, ask questions of professors, sit and speak with other classmates, and wants to go into the military! He's taking Political Science, History of Religion & is in the ROTC. As his grandmother, I am most proud of him! Dear Lord; please watch over my grandson that he'll continue to succeed, be healthy, safe, and happy in all his journeys always. Dear Lord, thank you for helping and hearing my prayers.
