"One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple." --PSALM 27:4**************"I SIPPED MY coffee, inhaling a mixture of the fresh brew and the crisp morning mountain air. The Smoky Mountains of Tennessee stretched wide before me as I enjoyed the quiet song of nature. The house behind me sat quiet as my family and friends slept in, enjoying a week of refreshing vacation. As I soaked in the alone time, I heard a buzzing at my right shoulder. I turned my head and came face - to-face with a vibrant hummingbird. It hovered at my shoulder for a few seconds and then disappeared over the porch railing and into the mountains. I sat in breathless awe. What a gift to have such a close encounter with a hummingbird. I'd never been eye to eye with one before. The next morning, I sat on the porch with my coffee again. MY Bible lay open on my lap as I thanked God for this week of respite with friends in such a beautiful location. I again heard buzzing at my right shoulder. I turned my head slowly, facing the hummingbird once more. Tears came to my eyes at the gift of a repeated unusual encounter. I held my breath, feeling a holiness in the moment. It were as though God was working to get my attention, so I could see Him in this encounter. In the busyness of everyday life, I often forget to stop and savor God's gifts around me or to even look for His presence and beauty. How many fuchsia sunsets have I missed? How many birds chattering in nests above me? How many babies' smiles have I buzzed right past too busy moving to stop and appreciate being in this beautiful world? The psalmist provides us with a beautiful and holy focus--to dwell in the house of the Lord and to gaze upon His beauty. Quiet, holy moments such as the ones with a hummingbird at my shoulder remind me to slow down and to look for the beautiful gifts God gives us each day." --AMELIA RHODES*************Enjoy a blessed, safe, & Very Joyous Holy Week!
