Mika Nishimura graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston. During her time at Berklee, Mika was able to participate in many highly acclaimed festivals and showcases. She was selected to lead the Berklee Monterey Quartet and was chosen to perform her original music in Monterey, CA, at the Monterey Jazz Festival, one of the most anticipated annual jazz festivals. In addition to the festival, the quartet performed in many different venues around the East coast. Soon after, Mika received the award for the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) and performed for the IAJE in New York. The group also showcased their talents all over the East coast performing in various venues such as the Kennedy Center in WashingtonD.C. and Lincoln Center in New York. They took her music internationally and traveled throughout Costa Rica where they performed and held clinics for young children. After returning from Costa Rica, Mika was selected to participate in the annual Sienna Jazz Festival in Italy. Since she moved to New York she has been performing at Carnegie hall, Jazz at Lincoln center, Apollo Theater. Mika just returned from Zimbabwe where she performed for the 2014 HIFA Harare International Festival of the Arts. She is currently playing at several churches in New York City. She is working on her soon to be released record.
