Emily Thomas
Flutist
Flutist Emily Thomas is one of the most promising young artists of her generation, dedicated to communicating the power and relevance of classical music through performance, education, recording, and video. Driven by destiny, the indefatigable artistic process, and the spiritual unity of music, Thomas thrills audiences throughout the US, Canada, and Europe in solo and chamber music recitals. Inspiring composers to dedicate concertos, sonatas, solo pieces and chamber works in her honor, Thomas finds premiering contemporary works an accelerating experience. Thomas also composes and arranges solo and chamber works which she performs regularly.
Highlights of her past and present seasons include performances at Carnegie Hall (NYC) with the Juilliard Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of New York, Kennedy Center Theatre (DC), Lorin Maazel's private concert Hall in Castleton (VA), Huntsville Symphony Orchestra (AL), and collaborations with Joshua Bell and Christian Tetzlaff at Aspen Festival (CO). Additionally, Thomas is a founding member of Eta3, a flute-clarinet-piano trio, which tours regularly throughout the United States (Eta3.org).
Thomas received both her Masters and Bachelors of Music from the Accelerated Program of The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Robert Langevin, principal flutist of the New York Philharmonic. Thomas was awarded the New Horizon and American Academy of Conductors Fellowships to the Aspen Music Festival and School for three summers studying with Nadine Asin. Originally from Huntsville, Alabama, Thomas attended the Interlochen Arts Academy for three years of high school spending summers at Interlochen Arts Camp and Boston University's Tanglewood Institute.
